Complex Cooling.
High Performance.
Near-Net Shape.

HIPerForm® is TG Steels’ advanced near-net-shape manufacturing technology, developed for critical tooling components where conventional manufacturing limits cooling design, performance and component life.

By combining Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), advanced powder metallurgy and application-specific engineering, HIPerForm® enables complex internal geometries and conformal cooling channels to be integrated directly into high-performance tooling components.

With a particular focus on High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC), HIPerForm® provides a fast, scalable and cost-competitive alternative to Additive Manufacturing for medium and large tooling components.

Engineered for HPDC

Modern HPDC demands shorter cycle times, improved thermal control and increasingly complex tooling. Conventional drilled cooling channels are restricted by straight-line geometry and often cannot provide effective cooling in critical areas. This can create local hot spots, uneven temperature distribution, premature thermal fatigue and longer cycle times. HIPerForm® overcomes these limitations by allowing cooling channels to follow the geometry and thermal requirements of the component. Cooling where it is needed. Geometry designed around the process, not around the drill.

Typical HPDC Applications

  • Shot Sleeves
  • Shot Sleeve Inserts
  • Plunger Components
  • Core Pins
  • Inserts
  • Cores
  • Local Die Inserts
  • Complex HPDC Tooling Components
  • Components requiring intensive conformal cooling

The technology can also be adapted to other tooling applications where complex internal channels, thermal management or near-net-shape manufacturing provide a technical advantage.

Conformal Cooling Without AM Limitations

Additive Manufacturing has opened new possibilities for conformal cooling, particularly for small and geometrically complex components. HIPerForm® extends these possibilities to applications where component size, production speed and manufacturing cost can make AM less competitive.

HIPerForm® Advantages

DESIGN FREEDOM

Complex internal cooling channels can be positioned close to critical surfaces and adapted to the thermal requirements of the application.

NEAR-NET-SHAPE MANUFACTURING

Components are consolidated close to their final geometry, significantly reducing machining requirements compared with manufacturing from conventional solid blocks.

DESIGNED FOR LARGER COMPONENTS

HIP technology enables the production of components beyond the practical size and productivity limits of many AM processes.

COMPETITIVE MANUFACTURING ROUTE

For suitable geometries and volumes, HIPerForm® can provide substantially faster and more cost-efficient production than fully additive manufacturing.

HOMOGENEUS MATERIAL PROPERTIES

Hot Isostatic Pressing produces fully consolidated material with a fine and homogeneous microstructure.

REDUCED MATERIAL WASTE

Near-net-shape production reduces the amount of material that must be removed during machining.

From Powder
To Performance

HIPerForm® integrates the complete manufacturing route:

Application Analysis → Cooling Design → Engineering → Powder Selection → Near-Net-Shape Manufacturing → HIP Consolidation → Heat Treatment → Precision Machining → Finished Component

TG Steels combines its expertise in tool steels, metal powders, powder metallurgy, HIP technology and HPDC applications to engineer the complete component rather than simply supply the raw material.

Designed Around
Thermal Performance

In HPDC, effective cooling is not simply about adding more cooling channels. Channel position, geometry, distance from the working surface, cooling flow and material properties must work together. HIPerForm® components are therefore engineered around the thermal behaviour of the application.

The objective is to achieve:

  • More homogeneous temperature distribution
  • Reduced local hot spots
  • Faster heat extraction
  • Improved thermal balance
  • Reduced thermal fatigue
  • Increased component life
  • Shorter casting cycles
  • Improved process stability

HIPerForm®

Shape the Steel. Control the Heat.
TG Steels HIP Near-Net-Shape Technology

From metal powder to a fully engineered HPDC component, HIPerForm® brings together material technology, conformal cooling and near-net-shape manufacturing in one integrated solution.

  • More design freedom.
  • Better thermal control.
  • Less machining.
  • Faster production.
